Living on your own is one of the most exciting parts of starting college. On-campus housing at any university is cool, but there’s something special about having a room with skyline views and access to the heart of Atlanta. However, before decorating your space, movie nights and trips to the dining hall can begin, you must first decide which first-year, on-campus housing option is best for you. Keep in mind that rates are based on a per-bed charge and are subject to change. You can see the most up-to-date rates here!
First-Year Residence Halls:
In Piedmont North you have the option of living in a one, two or three-person bedroom with one shared bathroom ranging from per semester. There are two buildings, 1,200 residents and an on-site dining hall. See Piedmont North for yourself in this video tour!
Piedmont Central is the newest residence hall at Georgia State and houses about 1,200 residents. Piedmont Central offers two private bedrooms and one shared bath for two residents or two shared bedrooms with one shared bath for four residents. Check out this video tour of Piedmont Central.
The smallest of our residence halls, Patton Hall houses around 325 residents with suite-style living. You can choose to live with two other roommates in your own private bedroom with one shared bath, one other roommate in a shared bedroom and shared bathroom, or two other roommates in a shared bedroom and bathroom. Keep in mind that while we do have more on-campus housing, like the University Lofts and University Commons, these are primarily reserved for upper-class students (sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students). That’s what makes our first-year housing so special — it’s a place for only first-year students to make connections and adjust to the many changes that come with college.
The next step in securing your housing is to apply. We mean it when we say housing fills up quickly, so don’t delay in submitting your application. There could be a waitlist, but there’s no guarantee rooms will open up. The process is pretty simple: just fill out the application through your MyHousing Portal, accept the terms of the Housing Agreement, submit the housing deposit, then you’re on your way!
Then, you’ll visit My College Roomie to begin the roommate selection process. After you select or are matched with your roommate, you’ll receive your time for room selection. Only ONE roommate needs to select the room. If you don’t choose a roommate, you’ll select a room and be placed with roommates who also selected that room. And hey, don’t stress too much if you end up with someone you don’t know. This person could end up being a life-long friend, or at least someone to grab lunch with between classes!
If you’re bringing a vehicle to campus, you’ll also want to apply for parking. You can find more info on that if you visit this page and scroll down to “How to Apply for Parking.” This step comes after you know for sure which residence hall you’ll be in since the process can differ based on your building. Either way, though, your car will be in a secure parking deck easily accessible from your hall.
While we highly recommend living on campus, there is not a live-on requirement for first-year students. You can commute from home or check out other off-campus options in Atlanta. The perks of our residence halls can’t be beat, though! (Did we mention the dining options that are available almost 24/7?) Georgia State really has it all when it comes to first-year housing: close proximity to classes, social events, comfortable living spaces and a place that’s all yours in the middle of the city.
